Flat Ass 2014

9th Annual Pigtails Flat Ass Marathon and 50K

We had perfect weather the day before and the day after the race. Day of race, not so much. That's how mother nature rolls. Still, we had a bunch of PRs. It was a wet day but nobody drowned. Everyone returned back safe.

So much thanks to my volunteers: Jill Hudson, Ray Shaw, Jenny Hanna, and Jess Mullen. Jess rode with me to set up the un-manned aid station and the turn arounds. Matt Hagen, Betsy Rogers, and Tracy Brown returned this year and helped runners move along at the middle aid station. Christy Hammond's family set up an impromptu aid station as well!

Thanks to everyone's donations, we were able to unload many boxes of food at the Maple Valley Food Bank and I was able to write them a check for $400. This time of year it is extremely needed.

One overall course record was set this year by Matt Zuchetto in the 50K. His time of 3:35:04 beat the previous record of 3:37:11 by Steve Geertgens, who happened to win the marathon this year in 2:58:10. Here Steve is with female marathon winner Kathy Coburn in 3:24:36, a new masters CR.

The cowbell medals were a big hit. I just have to come up with one more design for next year. As many of you know, next year will be my last year. Ten years is a solid run. It is a lot of work, especially with my other races. I feel like I am always having to do something to prepare for them. Put on a race of your own and you will know what I mean. So next year will be the last year for this run and the Pigtails 200/150/100 Mile runs. Bruce Hoff finished his 9th December race this year. Mary Richards was planning on continuing her streak and running her 100th marathon but could not due to being sick. Looking forward to seeing you get your 10 year finish next year Bruce!

Here is Dean Kayler having trouble getting his medal on.

Here are the results. Please let me know if there are any mistakes and I will fix.
